Hotel de Couvent de la Visitation
Hotel garden – In progress
Hidden in the heart of Nice overlooking the old town and sea, this historic disused convent is being transformed into a luxury five star hotel. Tom Stuart-Smith Ltd are working with hotel creators PERSEUS, architects Studio Mumbai and Stanislas Alaguillaume. Hotel de Couvent de la Visitation will sympathetically restore and expand the neglected buildings and gardens while retaining their spirit and charm.
The gardens consist of three main areas - a central cloister courtyard, a lower courtyard garden around a new building, and historic terraces situated above the convent that will feature a combination of cultivated planting and wild fruit tree groves. The proposed landscape will be strongly influenced by the local vernacular of traditional building methods and materials, while the planting will be largely productive fruit trees, vegetables, herbs and cut flowers with the produce being used in the hotel.
This project is ongoing and designed by Tom Stuart-Smith Ltd where Jem was an Associate. His role was lead landscape architect from 2015-2017 before returning to Australia.
